School-based occupational therapy is at a critical point of transformation. Increasing student complexity, workforce shortages, evolving educational priorities, implementation challenges, and growing demands for evidence-informed and educationally relevant practice require practitioners and leaders to move beyond incremental change toward intentional systems redesign. Grounded in the Quality Indicators for Effective School-Based Occupational Therapy Practice, implementation science, knowledge translation, adaptive leadership, and participation-focused practice, this advanced retreat brings together practitioners, leaders, scholars, and innovators to critically examine the current landscape of school-based occupational therapy and collaboratively envision the future of the profession in educational systems. Through facilitated inquiry, systems analysis, collaborative design work, and strategic planning, participants will explore emerging models of practice, identify barriers and opportunities influencing the field, and develop actionable pathways for strengthening occupational therapy’s impact within schools. Participants will engage in high-level discussions related to workforce development, educational relevance, implementation science, professional reasoning, evidence translation, systems leadership, de-implementation of low-value practices, and the development of sustainable and scalable approaches that improve participation and educational outcomes for students. This retreat is designed for experienced practitioners, program leaders, faculty, researchers, and emerging leaders seeking to shape the future direction of school-based occupational therapy through thoughtful, evidence-informed, and systems-focused leadership.
